Why The Addiction To LSD Is So Dangerous

LSD is a hallucinogenic drug that was originally made from a fungus that grew on wheat. It was originally  isolated from that fungus by two chemists back in 1938 and the original person who took the drug, took it by accident and that's how the hallucinogenic effects were originally discovered. LSD has been illegal in the United States for quite some time, it's very powerful and only 200 millionths of a gram is considered a hit that will last up to 12 long hours. LSD is not noted for a strong physical dependency but the psychological effect is definitely there.

Most people who take LSD see hallucinations of different colors and patterns, plus they tend to have a feeling of "one with the universe".  In a few cases people who take LSD suffer from what is called a bad trip and they become quite paranoid, suicidal and a bit crazy. LSD also has long-term aftereffects that involve flashbacks and depression which can lead to suicide as well.

When it comes to breaking any addiction to LSD it can become very difficult for a person to go it alone. The psychological connection that people have to this drug makes it a hard one to break. Most addicts that do overcome LSD addiction, do it with professional help in an inpatient situation that involves plenty of counseling and psychotherapy to overcome the depression, suicidal feelings, and flashbacks of LSD.

The worst part of the psychological addiction to LSD is that even many years later people can have flashbacks and delusions. These can result in either serious bodily harm or sometimes a suicidal accident such as walking out into freeway traffic or trying to fly out a window. Many times these people are completely disconnected from their actions and have no conscious feeling of what is happening to them.

In order to break an addiction to LSD most inpatient clinics use a combination of treatments to be successful. Although the physical addiction is quite minor the psychological addiction can be incredibly  strong with this drug.
