To Achieve Long Term Addiction Recovery Treat The Whole Person

The path of recovery from addiction to normalcy is never one that is lined with roses and fountains. The sad truth is that for the greater part of the withdrawal phase it always feels like you're carrying a colossal weight of anxiety, edginess and frankly speaking, boredom. Sometimes a change of tack is the only way to overcome barriers to recovery, for instance, taking on the holistic approach to addiction recovery. To achieve long term recovery it is helpful to try to treat the whole person, not only the body, but the mind and spirit as well.

A Complete Overhaul Of Your Thought Processes

They say you are what you think. Generally speaking we all behave according to how we think, otherwise we would not be able to make decisions based on our inherent freedom of choice. Controlling the mind and thinking of the positives of beating addiction is a nice way to start the overhaul of ones thought processes.

Feel At Ease With The New You

A lot of people who relapse do so because they feel uncomfortable outside their usual comfort zone of overindulgence. A person who was used to the loud and random ranting of clubs can find it hard to cope in new environments where subtlety and naivety and standards for conformity. The secret, however, is to try to find at least an inkling of satisfaction with your changed circumstances. Things to like and things to marvel at can increase your withdrawal confidence.  See the spirit as that invisible aspect of the "person-hood" that provides the aroma for the thoughts and certain thoughts depend on specific scents and smell to ground them.

When all is said and done it is the body that has to bear the heaviest counterweight to the urges that manifest themselves as talons reaching out to snatch you back from the grips of recovery. There are various natural therapies that you can try out, for instance, nicotine gums for ex-smokers and non-alcoholic beer for recovering alcoholics. Though the list being endless, you should ask your therapist to guide you as you search for a natural treatment that will work for you.

The Difference Between Dependence And Addiction To Pain Meds

In this high stress world that we live in, it's far to easy to get on a road to over using any sort of medication. When does a lot cross the line and become too much? Where is the line between dependency to opiods and addiction to them start?

None of these questions are easy, and the answer can be even more elusive. Additions to pain medications such as Tylenol with Codeine, or just Codeine itself can be subtle at first. What is the difference between addiction and dependency?

Chemical dependency happens when the body begins to adapt to the opioid and the quantity needed to produce pain relief starts to rise. This helps explain why some people can feel relief with just one dose of Tylenol with Codeine, while others regularly need three or four pills, or more, for the same amount of relief. With dependency also comes withdraw symptoms, which can include high anxiety, sweating, trembles, loss of appetite and the list goes on.

Addiction is a little more serious. When taken in high quantities, these drugs cause highs and euphoria. The intent behind the use of the prescription is not pain relief, but the euphoria that comes with over use of the drug.

Addiction and dependency are not a small matter. Withdraw symptoms can be intense, and the long term affect that these drugs have on internal organs can be devastating.

If you suspect that you, or some one that you know has a problem with pain medications, it's never to late to get the problem under control. While many programs and articles focus on the physical issues that cause the abuse in the first place, don't under estimate your emotional well being. Taking care of yourself emotionally is the number one way to stop an over use of opioids and morphine derivatives in its tracks.

The Dangers Of Psychedelic Magic Mushrooms

Psilocybin mushrooms, many times called magic mushrooms, grow naturally all over the northern part of the United States, and many other parts of the world as well. There are hundreds of different varieties of these mushrooms all with  different strengths and effects, so it's difficult to know before hand, exactly what you're getting when you either pick them in the wild or by them on the street. These mushrooms are typically consumed either ground up, dried and mixed with tea or coffee, or sometimes consumed raw. Users report having an unbridled imagination, seeing colors, a warped view of the world, and a feeling of being set free. Occasionally the user will also report having an uncontrollable nightmare, consumed with panic and the fear of not being able to escape. Mushroom trips can take up to 30 minutes after consumption to begin, then may last six hours or more in duration.

Psilocybin mushrooms have not been studied extensively for their long-term health effects, and so it's difficult to know what kinds of problems, mental or physical, that the user could expect. There is also a difference between a person who tries them one time, and an addict who consumes them on a daily basis in large quantities. It is extremely difficult to stop their use when they grow wild in the woods, and in fields near cow manure, making their availability widespread. One serious problem, related to mushrooms in general, is that many people automatically assume wild mushrooms growing near cow manure are psilocybin, and safe to consume. This is hardly the case, and can lead to a quick death as there are many mushrooms that are highly toxic.

On the one hand magic mushrooms can be considered an all-natural, unprocessed high, delivered by nature. They are only slightly addicting mentally, and few people have violent episodes similar to PCP, crack, or heroin.   Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to know what long-term damage could be done to a person psychologically, mentally or physically, because testing on live humans is definitely ill legal.

Obviously psilocybin mushrooms are not the most pressing problem society has with drugs today. However, being dependent on any mind altering substance tends to lead to problems eventually, either physically or mentally, and many drug users are experimenting with several drugs at the same time. In such cases it's best to contact a drug treatment facility in order to completely detox and eliminate all drugs from the life of an addict, in order to rehabilitate them.
